How was it working with Nintendo? I recently finished "Console Wars" (great read, for what it's worth), and a central, recurring theme was Nintendo's obsession with controlling every element of the process. Of course, that was 30 years ago, but I wonder how much of that company DNA carries into today.
They do control a lot of it, but I never had a problem with them. Basically, they're just making sure it's a good experience for the player and not shit. So my experience was "hey, improve this parts here and there before we approve it"
And that's what we had to do, improve some playable sections, optimize a bunch of stuff, etc.
I get why they're like that...when Atari let anyone do it, video games almost died completely as a fad.
Also, lol, the console wars book (which is great, yes) is very skewed towards the writer being a Sega fan back in the day, hah.
I think of the console wars as such a weird period. We were all manipulated into "choosing sides" just so Sega could sell more games. Personally, I had both systems and thought both were great.
Oh yeah, I certainly picked up on the Sega worship! but you know, I played both systems a lot (both pre-Genesis and with the Genesis, and I owned the 8 bit and 16 bit NES systems). They were both good!
I will say this, though: Tom Kalinske surely goes down as one of the all-time greats. The guy is a living legend.
Okay, you have to tell me some of your favorite games now. I can say for sure I loved Golden Axe and Altered Beast (OG Sega?), and Sonic was super fun.
NES had a more fleshed out library, but I couldn't get enough of Tecmo Bowl, Super Mario 2, and Defenders of the Crown (closest thing to D&D as far as I was concerned).
Those are all great games! Favorites, oh that's tough.
For the NES, Final fantasy 1, Ultima:Exodus and Avatar, Castlevania 2, Bubble Bobble, The Uninvited and Shadowgate, Solstice, The Legend of Zelda, and Contra.
For Genesis- Phantasy Star 2 and 4, Altered Beast, Ghouls and Ghosts, Samurai Showdown, Sonic, and Shining Force 1 and 2
For snes- Zelda: A Link to the Past, Actraiser, Super Ghouls and Ghosts, Super Castlevania 4, Final Fantasy 2 and 3, Chrono Trigger, and Gradius 3
I realize that I mixed systems up, but hey, nostalgia knows no bounds.
I certainly got into Street Fighter II and then Mortal Kombat. Those were "next level" time killers for sure.
Ghouls and Ghosts... ever play the arcade version? I wanna say it was called "Ghosts and Goblins." It was one of the more popular games around that time, must have been middle school for me.
Exciting!! Did Bad Writer ever make it through for the Canadian eshop?
Oh! I don't know, I'll have to ask my publisher! It's up to them
Ah, okay. Fingers crossed!

100% agreed with that!
